Renovation Project
12-21-2007 -

Sean Carpenter of The Community Builders and David Hajjar of the Cheriton Grove Corporation reviewed the upcoming building renovations with the tenants on December 19th in the Community Room.  Both wanted to assure everyone that there will plenty of help to assist them when it comes time to pack up their Kitchen and Bathroom belongings.  The meeting was well attended, answered many questions, and provided an opportunity for residents to give their input.

The overall project, which was approved by the Board of Directors on December 17th, is expected to take approximately 8 to 9 months to complete, although the interior apartment work should only take around 5 months to finish.  Work is expected to begin in March 2008.

A Christmas Gift
12-26-2007 - The Cheriton Grove Corporation would like to thank Maurice Daaboul and his family from Byblos Restaurant located at 678 Washington Street-Norwood for providing a wonderful meal and entertainment for the tenants on December 20th.  Maurice and his family have been donating their delicious food and time for the past 3 years and each year more and more attend this annual event.  Maurice and his family bring the food and entertainment right to to the Community Room, so that nobody has to travel.  We are so grateful and thankful that individuals such as Maurice find the time and are able to give back to their supporting community.  THANK  YOU  MAURICE!!!

Renovation Project

We recently conducted a building walk thru with 4 vendors that were approved to submit a proposal to complete the proposed construction.  Vendors were required to submit their bids last Thursday (12/6).  members of the Cheriton Grove Board of Directors and our hired consultant, The Community Builders, will be conducting interviews this week to gather additional information on cost, schedule, and scope of work.  A final vote by the Cheriton Grove Board of Directors on 12/17 will lead to a contract being signed by the beginning of 2008.

Board of Director Meeting

The next Cheriton Grove Corporation Board of Directors meeting will be held on Monday, December 17th at 6 PM in the Community Rooom.  This meeting is being held in special session to approve the xselection of a general contractor, a lender, and an equity partner, enabling us to complet the proposed $1.2 million dollar construction palnned for Cheriton Grove Apartments.

House Committee Meeting

The next meeting of the Cheriton Grove Corporation's House Committee will be on Tuesday, December 18th at 1:00 PM.  The meeting will be held in the Community Room Cheriton Grove Apartments.  This is the monthly meeting between the CGC Board representatives and the property management firm, The Community Builders, to discuss on-going building and tenant issues.

Waiting List

We continue to receive many questions about the current waiting list to get into Cheriton Grove Apartments and what effect will the new building (Cheriton Heights) have on the list.  No final decissions have been made regarding a waiting list for Cheriton Heights.  At the appropriate time, information regarding who is eligible and how the process will work for Cheriton Heights will be published by the AABA.

Seniors requiring affordable housing now or in the near future should not wait.  We strongly recommend interest seniors submit an Application as soon as possible to the SIte Manager of Cheriton Grove.  Other information and forms are located in the Tenant Information section of the Cheriton Grove Library.  Our waiting list, while fluctuating from time to time, can create a wait of between 5 to 6 years, so don't wait - submit an application.

Community Service for High School Students

We are often asked about what assistance can be given to the seniors of Cheriton Grove.  It's not so much what they need as about having company and talking with someone.  While we try to offer programs and activities to keeep everyone busy and productive, some days are good for peace and quiet.  On those days doing the little things can really help.

The Cheriton Grove Corporation has a policy that enables High School students to earn community service hours by helping tenants and the property management company with needed services.  High School students that are required to perform a certain number of community service hours as a requirement for graduation to to obtain theirr certification of completion, can do so at Cheriton Grove Apartments.  For additional information, please consult the High School Community Service Policy contained within the Library section of this web page or the Site Manager (Rita) on 617-325-1913.

Resident Service Coordinator

The House Committee of Cheriton Grove Corporation, along with The Community Builders, are still working with the AABA to either provide a Resident Service Coordinator or to hire a company to provide these needed services.  We know this is very important to the residents of Cheriton Grove.  Both the AABA and the Cheriton Grove Corporation will continue to work on this issue until resident services are provided.

Cheriton Grove Gardens

While the AABA held it's dedication of the Cheriton Grove Gardens on October 29, 2006, it's never to late to be a part of our project.  This is an opportunity to purchase a brick or granite block in support of the AABA.

The AABA created a beautiful \"Cheriton Grove Gardens\" in the back of the apartment complex with a decorative water fountain.  You can still be a part of our fundraising efforts and purchase bricks or granite blocks inscribed with your own personal message that will become a life long message.  Your brick could be in memory of, in honor of, in celebration of, or just from a friend of.  You could even donate a brick as a ¬special gift to someone \"who has everything.\" The meaning and message could be yours alone.
